South African Menswear Week is Africa’s only stand-alone platform dedicated to the development and promotion of menswear within the African continent. Taking place twice a year in Cape Town, South Africa, SAMW aims to provide a world-class platform for menswear designers and brands to showcase their latest collections. A series of shows over three days, only the best of menswear is invited to be on the schedule each season.
The goal is to be the leading platform in terms of innovation, trends, production and most importantly, the promotion of our designers. It’s about building credibility for the platform that will enable designers to grow their businesses.
Curated by leading industry experts, our panel selects and invites the best of established and upcoming designers to participate each season. Coupled with the best show producers on the continent, and innovative event management, from PR through to venue selection, SAMW aims to provide the necessary platform for our designers to get the exposure, and platform they require in order to grow their businesses.
Modelled heavily on the world’s leading platform, London Fashion Week Men’s, SAMW takes place each season within interesting, unexplored settings, with show spaces seating no more than 400 people, and clean, simple show production with nothing to detract from the clothing. Our partnership with the platform will also see leading SA designers eventually showcase in London, both as a drive to build exports, but also more importantly awareness of these brands back home in South Africa.
Future SA Menswear Week dates are set internationally in terms of the calendar for other Menswear Weeks, including London, Pitti, Milan, Paris and New York. SAMW is seen as the “African” platform within this global schedule, taking place each season between Paris and New York Mens. Dates for the next year are:
Spring / Summer 2018 – 05 to 08 July 2017
Autumn / Winter 2018 – 08 to 10 February 2018
Spring / Summer 2019 – 04 to 07 July 2018
Partnerships with the City of Cape Town and the Cape Town Fashion Council ensure that our platforms and designers are credible, and have access to further opportunities these partnerships can offer in terms of development and promotion. Partnerships with Continental platforms such as Swahili Fashion Week, Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Windhoek Fashion Week, Accra Fashion Week, Durban Fashion Fair, Africa Fashion Week London and more ensure that we’re constantly providing meaningful partnerships for designers to leverage to grow their businesses.
